For my first year at university I have chosen a TV module because I think the TV industry is exciting, fun and enjoyable. I also wanted to choose a module that would be very practical and would keep me on my feet.
For this module we learnt basic TV camera skills on location and with a studio camera. There are also opportunities to produce, direct, vision mix, VT operate, run auto cue, camera operate, sound assist, edit, present and cable bash.
I chose the two main roles of camera operation and editor because I love using the camera and I enjoy using premier pro to edit videos. I’m a very visual learner, so these roles fit me well.
For our assessment we have production groups of about 20 and we have to produce a 20 minute live tv magazine show, with four VT’s included. Then we have to write a critical report after the TV show airs, to reflect on what we did well, didn’t do so well and how we would improve the TV show.
This module was a lot of fun and I think that I could potentially find a career in camera operation or TV Broadcasting. My next step was to find work experience within this field so I can experience what it would be like working for a television production company. A company I interviewed to join work experience for was North One TV, but unfortunately due to their busy schedule and unpredicted circumstances, I could not join the team.
